Classica Fine Silver Filigree Ring is hand-made using traditional filigree techniques that have been used in Colombia for centuries.

Ring Dimensions: width is slightly larger than 1/2" wide.
We support Fair Trade jewelry. Each piece is bought directly from traditional local artisans. Our Filigree Classica collection is made in Mompox – Colombia. Classica is crafted delicately by dedicated goldsmiths who had the trade passed down from generation to generation. The Classica collection is the result of patient, meticulous, and painstaking attention to detail. The hand crafted nature of the pieces makes each unique - no two pieces are alike. Each is a one of a kind creation.
“The Filigree skill was brought to South America and specifically Colombia during the Spanish Colonial period (late 15th century through the 18th century). The Spanish had in turn learned the skill from the Moors who had invaded and conquered the Iberian Peninsula from the 8th through the 15th centuries. The Arabs had perfected working with intricate patterns as is beautifully demonstrated in the ruins of Alambra in Granada, the final stronghold of Moorish Spain.
In the Mompox island the Filigree style was fused with the goldwork of the Sinu culture giving it the name of Filigrana (Filigree) Momposina making it very unique.
The craftsmen of Colombia, today as in the colonial days, continue to make the jewelry with the techniques and tools of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.”
